The Dave Brubeck Quartet Performs at the Apple Store in New York

Last night, at the Apple Store in SoHo, I experienced what can only be described as a “wonderful treat.” About a week ago I had been perusing the SoHo store’s website, looking for information on dropping off a broken MacBook. Eventually I found what I was looking for, but towards the bottom of the page I also noticed a very recognizable image. It was the album art of one of my all time favorite albums, Time Out, by Dave Brubeck.

Reading on, I realized that the Apple Store in SoHo would be hosting a special event in which Dave Brubeck himself, along with the members of his current quartet would be making an appearance. I first thought, well this is cool… even if he doesn’t perform; it would be great to see him. So I did my homework and decided to cover the event for MacCreate.com.

Upon my arrival at the Apple store, I began an evening of surprises and win-falls that I like to describe as “everything’s coming up Micah.” It had turned out that my MacBook was ready on the same evening, so I would only have to make the one trip back to the store (yeah right, I’ll probably be back again next week). Not only was the laptop ready, but also Apple decided to pay for the parts, and so instead of my repair bill coming to $180 it was only $15. Thanks Apple!

Bushwick Flowerman

Yesterday I picked up a brand spanking new iPhone 3GS. Kendra and I made our way down to the Apple store in Soho where we spent all of 10 minutes standing in line. Before I knew it my original non-3g phone was converted into an iPod Touch and my new baby way taking calls and receiving emails.

Later, while eating sushi, I set up my email, took a few pics and started playing around with the cool new compass feature! Kendra laughed for quite a while as I followed the almost "candid-camera-esque" instructions for calibrating the compass...

So, my favorite new feature about this phone is obviously the camera. Auto-focus, macro capability and a bigger file! Once I got home I downloaded and configured Pixelpipe, which is now set to upload pics and vids to Flickr and Facebook ( how cool is that ) and of course Camerabag, which was recommended to me by the editors over at MacCreate.com.

I just saw this over at www.lx3-photography.com/ and had to post it! So good! Nikki Waller from the Wall Street Journal has some fun insights into why she loves her Panasonic LX3. She also has a full review article here. I love how she thinks the lens cap makes it "retro" but also kinda hard to use. Oh boy.... Enjoy!

burn

I'm pretty excited about David Alan Harvey's new project called burn Magazine. Not only is the website really slick and smartly designed, there is some really great content on there as well. His promo video, which I believe premiered at this years LOOK3 festival, is a little polished for my taste, but it gets the point across. So, I'm eager to see where he goes with this site and what is to come. I'm also happy to see someone using Wordpress and SlideshowPro in a fairly basic but good looking manner.

Keep and eye on this one!
